Over the course of this semester, you have been learning some new ways to think about writing. You’ve been introduced to a new writing process, one which involves steps and feedback and critical thinking about your writing. Now is a chance for you to reflect on what you think/feel about what you’ve learned regarding writing. Make all of your unit analyses handy so that you may refer back to them, and then think back over the units.
Taking your portfolio as a major work that you have produced, think about what you might need to do to introduce a reader to what you have written. What do they need to know about you and about the process you went through in order to produce what they are about to read? How will you get them "up to speed?"
Write an essay; 3-6 pages which explores most of the questions listed below (remember that this is not only your chance to communicate with me about the course, but a chance for you to reflect on the changes your own writing process may have gone through during the semester). Please remember that I have asked for your writing to answer most of the questions—by that, I mean that I want you to write a coherent piece, and not merely answer the questions as though this were a questionnaire. The goal is not merely to get you to write a reflective piece, but to have you honestly reflect on the semester, and the writing that you have done:
What writing process has this course asked you to adopt? Describe it.
How comfortable were you with this new process early in the semester?
How comfortable are you with it now?
What do you think the purpose is behind asking you to write unit analyses? Why do you think that?
Briefly describe the units that we have gone through this semester. In each one, there was a specific lesson on writing that may or may not have been clear. What do you think those lessons were? Why do you think that?
Do you feel like you’ve learned those lessons
Which was your favorite unit? Why?
Which was your least favorite? Why?
If you could’ve arranged the portfolio in any way you wanted, which paper would you want the reader to read first? Why?
Why did you choose to revise the project you did? Describe your decision making process throughout the portfolio revision.
