reflective analysis
The eye sees not itself but by reflection. ~William Shakespeare
A reflective analysis is exactly what it sounds like. It is your chance to reflect and analyze on the writing process of each unit. This essay will accompany each project. And while I may give you particular things on which I want you to focus, it is YOUR chance to write and reflect on YOUR process, including editorial groups, teacher comments, group activities, brainstorming, revision and any other process you feel went into your project. This essay should serve as a means for focusing on your own writing. In addition it helps me to see what you wanted to achieve in the project and how you feel you achieved your goals.

This essay is an opportunity for you to explain your writing process throughout this unit. You should think critically about your writing process and articulate your identity as a writer.

• Did you have any specific concerns when writing?

• What went well for you? What did you struggle with?

• What would you do differently next time, if anything?

How did editorial comments and teacher comments benefit you? Be specific about which comments you found helpful and how you revised based on those comments. You can quote from your peers or me or yourself. For example, Devon suggested I go into more detail about how my parents' divorce made me feel like I was living in two skins. She encouraged me to explore the metaphor of multiple skins, split skins and double skins in more detail. This was helpful because I was unsure exactly what elements of my life lead to me changing skins and I didn't know what to emphasize or where to start. Devon's suggestions steered me in a direction I would have otherwise not thought of.

• Talking about each part of the writing process should help you appropriately analyze your writing process.

• Your Analytical Essay should be at least 2 pgs. double-spaced
