Design Philosophy
My design philosophy is fairly straightforward. I think web design should be intuitive for users. Websites are rhetorical and I approach each design with numerous audiences in mind. For example, this website blends my academic pursuits with my design interests. I also use it for teaching. Therefore I have my students, potential employers, and colleagues in mind as I design. I consider, however, secondary audiences like people who stumble across my site or instructors at other universities. I want my audience to connect with me through the site, to see my values, interests and ideas in action. But mostly, I want them to use the site. For this reason clear navigation is essential. I like giving my readers various options on how they use and navigate the site. This is why navigation occurs in a menu bar and through links as well as content boxes.
Ultimately, I try to tell a story with design. I try to infuse my creativity, my passion, and my personality into my design. As I learn more about design elements such as color theory I can introduce these theories into my websites. Theory and practice. Theory in practice.
